Make a Difference
Who among us does not want to live happy? Happiness is also fulfillment, and fulfil
lment often occurs in the form of serving others and a higher purpose. This is a basic element of philanthropy. If you want to make a difference, to one person, to one cause – to feel the joy and the passion in doing something that makes the six degrees of separation just one degree closer, welcome! Our nation, our society, is built on the American dream. And yet, the American dream has become a fiction or a nightmare for many. The walls of their dream were never erected, or they were shaken so badly that they tumbled down. When one of us becomes homeless, terminally ill, cannot read a newspaper or a book, hope fades, and the dream fades with it. We walk the same streets, too often in opposite directions. If we put the same emphasis on taking care of our own that we place on policing the world, many of the issues of our time would become reconciled. It is you, all of you, all of us, who can make a measured difference. It is a matter of choice. Make the choice to make a difference, and become a part of the solution. If we cannot do it here, at home, how can we hope to make a difference elsewhere? It is your nation, your family, your friends, your decision!
The partnerships formed by sponsors and the qualified causes that they champion are part of the backbone of the nation. Those who understand that making a difference for others makes a difference in us and can help recreate or preserve hope and the dream. Without the leadership and action of these partnerships, little would get done. The achievements and progress of the philanthropic partnership provides hope, improved treatments and eventually cures.
This is a huge challenge for the 21st Century, and the diverse interests and needs addressed by these partnerships are more important than ever. In a complex and changing world, one constant that moves this forward is the desire to make a difference and to give back. If we can help achieve those goals, Riskhappiness’s objectives will be met, and so will those of our partners.
